Trypanosomiasis
Trypanosomiasis, also known as sleeping sickness or Chagas disease, is an illness caused by parasites called Trypanosomes. These parasites are primarily spread by infected tsetse flies in Africa (sleeping sickness) or by contact with the feces of triatomine bugs in the Americas (Chagas disease). Symptoms can include fever, headaches, fatigue, and in severe cases, neurological issues like confusion and sleep disturbances. If left untreated, it can lead to serious complications and even death. Prevention focuses on avoiding insect bites and improving living conditions. Treatment is available but is most effective when started early.
