Chagas Disease
Chagas disease is a tropical infectious disease caused by a parasite called Trypanosoma cruzi, primarily transmitted through the bite of infected triatomine bugs, also known as “kissing bugs.” It mainly affects people in Latin America but can occur elsewhere. Symptoms can include fever, fatigue, and swelling at the bite site. If untreated, it can lead to more serious heart and digestive problems over time. Prevention focuses on reducing contact with the bugs through improved housing and hygiene. Early diagnosis and treatment are important to manage the disease effectively.
