NTDs (Neglected Tropical Diseases)

Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) are a group of infectious diseases that primarily affect people in tropical and subtropical regions, often in impoverished communities. They include diseases like dengue, leprosy, and schistosomiasis. NTDs are termed "neglected" because they receive less attention and funding compared to other diseases, despite causing significant suffering and disability. They can lead to chronic health issues, social stigma, and economic hardship. Efforts to combat NTDs focus on improving sanitation, access to clean water, and healthcare, as well as providing medications and vaccines to those most at risk.
