Trial of Louis XVI

The Trial of Louis XVI took place in 1792-1793 during the French Revolution. Louis XVI, the King of France, was accused of treason for attempting to flee the country and undermine the revolution. A National Convention, formed after the monarchy was abolished, oversaw the trial. He was found guilty and executed by guillotine on January 21, 1793. His death symbolized the end of absolute monarchy in France and marked a critical turning point in the revolution, as it escalated tensions and led to more radical phases of revolutionary governance.
