Montagnards

Montagnards, also known as Degar or Highlanders, are indigenous ethnic groups native to the Central Highlands of Vietnam. They have distinct languages, cultures, and traditions, often living in rural, mountainous areas. Historically, they faced marginalization and conflict with the Vietnamese government, especially during the Vietnam War, when many supported or joined U.S. forces. Today, Montagnards continue to preserve their cultural identities while advocating for recognition, rights, and better living conditions. Their history reflects a complex relationship with Vietnam’s broader society, shaped by issues of ethnicity, politics, and regional identity.
