1793

The years 1793-1794 were pivotal during the French Revolution, marked by radical political changes and social upheaval. The Reign of Terror, led by the Committee of Public Safety under Maximilien Robespierre, sought to eliminate perceived enemies of the revolution. Thousands, including King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette, were executed by guillotine. This period was characterized by extreme measures to maintain control and achieve revolutionary ideals, ultimately leading to internal conflict. The Terror ended with Robespierre's downfall in July 1794, signaling a shift away from such drastic policies, paving the way for a more moderate government afterward.
