Robespierre

Maximilien Robespierre was a key figure in the French Revolution, known for his influential role in the Committee of Public Safety during the radical phase of the revolution. He advocated for equality and the rights of the common people, believing in the necessity of virtue and terror to achieve a just society. His leadership coincided with the Reign of Terror (1793-1794), where thousands were executed for perceived counter-revolutionary actions. Eventually, his extreme measures led to his downfall; he was arrested and executed in 1794, marking the end of the radical phase of the revolution and illustrating the complexities of revolutionary ideals.
