Treaty of Lahore

The Treaty of Lahore, signed in 1846, marked the end of the First Anglo-Sikh War between the British East India Company and the Sikh Empire. The treaty resulted in the Sikhs ceding significant territories, including parts of Punjab, and agreeing to pay a large indemnity. It also established British control over Kashmir, which was later sold to a local ruler, Gulab Singh. This treaty was a critical step in British expansion in India, leading to greater influence and eventual control over the entire region of Punjab.
