Timar system

The Timar system was an administrative framework used in the Ottoman Empire, primarily from the 14th to the 17th centuries. Under this system, land was allocated to soldiers and officials as a form of payment for their military service, rather than through direct salary. The landholders, known as timar holders, collected taxes from the peasants living on their land and were responsible for maintaining order and defending the territory. This system helped the Ottomans manage their vast empire, incentivizing loyalty and military support while allowing local governance.
