Thomas Wentworth

Thomas Wentworth, also known as the Earl of Strafford, was a prominent English statesman in the 17th century, notably serving under King Charles I. He played a crucial role in enforcing the king’s policies, often using strong and controversial methods. Wentworth was seen as a champion of royal authority, which led to conflict with Parliament. His actions contributed to the tensions that ultimately sparked the English Civil War. Arrested and tried for treason, he was executed in 1641, becoming a martyr for royalists and a symbol of the intense political struggles of that era.
