The White Lotus Revolt
The White Lotus Revolt (1796-1804) was a significant uprising in China, led by a secret society known as the White Lotus Society. It emerged in response to widespread discontent due to corruption, heavy taxation, and social unrest during the Qing Dynasty. The rebellion mainly took place in central China and involved rural communities. Although ultimately suppressed by government forces, it highlighted the challenges faced by the Qing rulers and marked a notable moment in China's history of peasant revolts, reflecting deep-seated grievances against imperial authority.
