The Taiping Rebellion (1850-1864) was a massive civil war in China, led by Hong Xiuquan, who claimed to be a visionary and believed he was the brother of Jesus Christ. He aimed to establish a "Heavenly Kingdom" and reform society by ending poverty and replacing Confucian teachings with his interpretation of Christianity. The rebellion attracted millions, resulting in one of the deadliest conflicts in history, with an estimated 20-30 million deaths. It highlighted widespread dissatisfaction with the Qing Dynasty and foreign influence, ultimately leading to significant social and political changes in China.
