The Spleen (anatomy)
The spleen is a small, bean-shaped organ located in the upper left side of the abdomen, behind the stomach. It plays several important roles in the body, primarily related to the immune system. The spleen filters blood, removing old or damaged red blood cells, and helps fight infections by producing white blood cells and antibodies. Additionally, it acts as a reservoir for blood, storing platelets and other cells. While the spleen is important, people can live without it, as other organs can take over some of its functions.
