Erthropoiesis
Erythropoiesis is the process by which the body produces red blood cells, essential for carrying oxygen throughout the body. It occurs mainly in the bone marrow, where stem cells develop into immature cells and then mature into fully functional red blood cells. This process is regulated by a hormone called erythropoietin, produced mainly by the kidneys, which responds to low oxygen levels in the blood. When oxygen is low, erythropoietin levels increase, stimulating more red blood cell production. This helps maintain the right balance of oxygen delivery to tissues, ensuring overall health and energy.
