The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood

The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was an art movement founded in England in 1848 by three young painters: Dante Gabriel Rossetti, William Holman Hunt, and John Everett Millais. They sought to challenge the conventions of the art world by drawing inspiration from nature, medieval themes, and early Renaissance art, particularly before the artist Raphael, hence the name. The Brotherhood emphasized rich colors, intricate details, and emotional depth in their work. They aimed to promote an honest and truthful representation of subjects, often exploring literature, mythology, and social issues, which set them apart from their contemporaries in the art scene.
