The Peninsular War

The Peninsular War (1808-1814) was a conflict during the Napoleonic Wars, involving Spain, Portugal, and Britain against France. It began when Napoleon invaded Spain to impose his rule. The Spanish resistance, supported by British forces, turned into a brutal guerrilla war. The war was characterized by significant battles and harsh conditions, leading to widespread suffering. Ultimately, the combined efforts of British, Spanish, and Portuguese troops resulted in the expulsion of French forces from the Iberian Peninsula, weakening Napoleon’s power in Europe and setting the stage for his later defeat.
