The Ming Dynasty (1368–1644) had a complex military system focused on defending China against external threats, particularly from the Mongols. The Ming military was organized into a hierarchy with professional soldiers, conscripts, and local militias. Key to their strategy was the Great Wall's expansion, which fortified northern borders. The navy also grew, protecting maritime trade. Despite early successes, the Ming faced challenges like corruption and internal strife, leading to a decline in military effectiveness. Ultimately, these weaknesses contributed to the dynasty's fall and the rise of the Qing Dynasty.
