Texcoco Lake

Texcoco Lake, located in central Mexico, was historically part of a larger lake system near the ancient Aztec city of Tenochtitlan, now Mexico City. In the 20th century, most of the lake was drained for urban development and agriculture. This alteration has caused environmental issues, including urban subsidence, where the ground sinks. The lake area is significant for its cultural history and biodiversity, once supporting various wildlife. Today, some efforts are underway to revive parts of the lake, reflecting its ecological and historical importance.
