Taliban's Fall (2001)
The Taliban's fall in 2001 occurred during the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan, following the September 11 terrorist attacks. The Taliban, a strict Islamist group that ruled Afghanistan, was harboring al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. In response, the U.S. launched military operations to dismantle the Taliban regime. Using a combination of air strikes and support for the Northern Alliance (a coalition of anti-Taliban forces), the U.S. swiftly overthrew the Taliban government, leading to its collapse by December 2001. This marked a significant shift in Afghanistan’s political landscape, leading to efforts to rebuild the country with new governance structures.
