Sweden-Norway Union

The Sweden-Norway Union, established in 1814, was a political partnership between Sweden and Norway, forming a dual monarchy. While both countries shared a king, they maintained separate governments and laws. This arrangement arose after Norway was ceded to Sweden following the Napoleonic Wars. The union aimed to balance Swedish dominance with Norwegian autonomy. Over time, tensions grew regarding Norway's desire for independence, leading to increased nationalism. The union officially ended in 1905 when Norway peacefully dissolved the partnership, re-establishing itself as an independent nation.
