Stress and coping theory
Stress and Coping Theory explores how individuals perceive and respond to stressors—challenges or demands in life that can create tension. Stress arises when a person feels that the demands outweigh their resources to cope. The theory emphasizes two main processes: appraisal, where one evaluates the significance of the stressor, and coping, which involves the strategies used to manage stress. Coping can be problem-focused (tackling the issue directly) or emotion-focused (managing feelings related to the stressor). Understanding this theory helps individuals recognize their responses to stress and develop effective strategies for better mental well-being.
