Strategic Air Command

Strategic Air Command (SAC) was a major command of the United States Air Force, responsible for America’s land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and bomber aircraft during the Cold War. Established in 1946, SAC's primary mission was to deter nuclear war through a formidable air presence and readiness to respond to threats. It played a crucial role in U.S. nuclear strategy, ensuring that the U.S. could strike back effectively in case of an attack. SAC was disbanded in 1992 after the Cold War, but its legacy remains significant in the context of military strategy and nuclear deterrence.
