Staten-Generaal

The Staten-Generaal, or States General, is the legislative body of the Netherlands, responsible for making laws and overseeing the government. It consists of two chambers: the Eerste Kamer (Senate) and the Tweede Kamer (House of Representatives). Members of the Tweede Kamer are directly elected by the public and propose legislation, while the Eerste Kamer reviews and approves or rejects laws passed by the Tweede Kamer. The Staten-Generaal plays a crucial role in Dutch democracy, representing citizens' interests and ensuring government accountability. It is reminiscent of other parliamentary systems but has its unique historical context and functions.
