Willem III of England
William III of England, also known as William of Orange, was a Dutch ruler who became King of England, Scotland, and Ireland in 1689 after the Glorious Revolution. He was invited by English nobles to replace King James II, aligning England more closely with Protestant and Dutch interests. William’s reign was marked by efforts to strengthen constitutional limits on monarchy and promote parliamentary power. He co-ruled with his wife, Mary II, and his rule helped shape modern British constitutional monarchy, emphasizing parliamentary sovereignty and reducing the king’s absolute power.
