Sinus infections
Sinus infections, or sinusitis, occur when the sinus cavities—air-filled spaces in the skull—become inflamed and swollen, often due to a viral infection, bacteria, or allergens. Symptoms usually include facial pain or pressure, nasal congestion, headache, and thick nasal discharge. These infections can be acute (short-term) or chronic (lasting more than three months). Treatment may involve rest, hydration, pain relief, and, in some cases, antibiotics if a bacterial infection is suspected. Maintaining good nasal hygiene and addressing allergies can help prevent future infections.
