Sphenoid Sinus
The sphenoid sinus is a hollow space located within the sphenoid bone at the center of the skull, behind the nasal cavity and below the brain. It is one of the several air-filled sinuses connected to the nose. The sphenoid sinus helps lighten the overall skull weight, warms and moistens inhaled air, and contributes to voice resonance. Because of its location near important structures like the optic nerve and brain, infections or issues here can cause headaches, vision problems, or other symptoms. Usually, the sinus is small, but it varies among individuals.
