Sibylline Books

The Sibylline Books were a collection of ancient prophetic texts in Roman history, believed to contain oracles and predictions about the fate of Rome and its people. According to legend, they were sold to the last king of Rome by a mysterious prophetess, the Sibyl, who offered nine books for a high price. When he refused, she burned three and offered the remaining six for the same price. Eventually, the Romans acquired the books and consulted them during crises, hoping to gain divine guidance. They were kept in the Temple of Jupiter and played a significant role in Roman religion and politics.
