Sybils

A Sybil attack occurs when a single entity creates multiple fake identities or accounts within a network or online community. This can manipulate the system by skewing voting, gaining undue influence, or disrupting trust. For example, in a peer-to-peer network, an attacker with many fake identities might interfere with decision-making or consensus processes. To prevent this, systems often implement measures to verify identities or limit the influence of new or unverified accounts. Recognizing and defending against Sybil attacks is essential to maintaining fairness and security in decentralized or online platforms.
