Shin Splints

Shin splints, or medial tibial stress syndrome, refer to pain along the shinbone (tibia) typically caused by repetitive stress on the leg muscles, tendons, and bone. It's common among runners, dancers, and athletes who suddenly increase their activity level. Symptoms include aching or sharp pain in the front of the lower leg during and after exercise. Factors such as improper footwear, running on hard surfaces, or muscle imbalances can contribute to shin splints. Treatment often involves rest, ice, stretching, and strengthening exercises, along with proper footwear and gradual increases in activity.
