Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome

Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome, commonly known as shin splints, is a condition characterized by pain along the inner edge of the shinbone (tibia). It often results from repetitive stress on the lower leg muscles, tendons, and bone tissue, usually due to increased activity levels or improper footwear. This causes inflammation and discomfort, especially during activity. Shin splints are common in runners, dancers, and military personnel. Rest, ice, proper footwear, and gradual training typically help resolve the pain. If persistent, a healthcare provider may recommend further evaluation or treatment to prevent progression.
