Saint Ignatius of Loyola was a Spanish priest and theologian, born in 1491, who founded the Society of Jesus, also known as the Jesuits, in 1534. He is best known for his spiritual teachings, particularly through his work "Spiritual Exercises," which emphasizes meditation and personal reflection to deepen one’s relationship with God. Ignatius advocated for education, missionary work, and social justice, significantly influencing the Catholic Church, especially during the Protestant Reformation. He was canonized as a saint in 1622, and his feast day is celebrated on July 31.
