Richard I (Richard the Lionheart)

Richard I, known as Richard the Lionheart, was King of England from 1189 to 1199. Famous for his role in the Third Crusade, he was a skilled military leader and a symbol of chivalry. Despite spending much of his reign abroad, particularly in battles against Saladin, he became a legendary figure in medieval history. Richard's reputation for bravery and honor earned him the nickname "Lionheart." He was also known for his strained relationship with his father, King Henry II, and his conflicts with various barons and political rivals at home. Richard died from a wound in battle in France.
