Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar
The Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar refers to the political system established after the Zanzibar Revolution of 1964, which overthrew the Sultanate and its Arab-led government. The revolution was driven by a desire for social and economic equality among the island's African majority. Following the uprising, the new government, dominated by the Afro-Shirazi Party, sought to implement socialist reforms and redistribute land and wealth. Zanzibar later united with Tanganyika to form the United Republic of Tanzania. The revolutionary changes significantly transformed Zanzibar's political landscape, contributing to various social and economic challenges in the years that followed.
