Regions and nation-states

Regions are areas defined by geographical, cultural, political, or economic similarities. For example, Europe, the Middle East, or Southeast Asia can be seen as regions due to shared characteristics. A nation-state, on the other hand, is a specific political entity characterized by defined borders, a permanent population, a government, and recognized sovereignty, such as France or Japan. Essentially, a nation-state represents an organized political unit, while regions can encompass multiple nation-states or parts of them, often highlighting commonalities that unify people within those areas.
