Raqqa Governorate

Raqqa Governorate is a region in northern Syria known for its historical significance and strategic location. It became widely recognized during the Syrian civil war as a stronghold for ISIS, which declared it the capital of their self-styled caliphate in 2014. The governorate features varied geography, including the Euphrates River, and its economy traditionally relied on agriculture. Following intense military operations and conflicts, the area has faced significant destruction and humanitarian challenges. Since 2017, however, it has been recovering, with efforts focused on rebuilding and addressing the needs of displaced residents.
