Psychogenic amnesia
Psychogenic amnesia, also known as dissociative amnesia, is a psychological condition where a person temporarily loses their memory, usually related to a stressful or traumatic event. Unlike neurological amnesia caused by brain injury, psychogenic amnesia results from psychological factors, such as trauma, stress, or conflict. Individuals may forget specific events, personal information, or even their identity. This condition can manifest as partial or complete memory loss, often as a coping mechanism to protect the individual from emotional pain. Treatment typically involves therapy to help the person process the underlying trauma and regain their lost memories.
