Photographic emulsion

Photographic emulsion is a light-sensitive coating used in photography, typically consisting of silver halides suspended in a gel-like substance. This coating is applied to films or photographic papers. When exposed to light, the silver halides react to form a latent image, which can later be developed into a visible photograph through chemical processes. In essence, photographic emulsion captures images through controlled chemical reactions triggered by light, forming the basis of traditional photography before the advent of digital technology.
