People's War in Nepal
The People's War in Nepal, which began in 1996, was a violent conflict led by the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist). The Maoists aimed to overthrow the monarchy and establish a people's republic by addressing deep-seated social and economic inequalities. The conflict lasted for a decade and resulted in significant loss of life and displacement. In 2006, after extensive protests and negotiations, a peace agreement was signed, leading to the abolition of the monarchy and the establishment of a federal democratic republic in 2008. The war's legacy continues to influence Nepal's politics and society today.
