People’s Liberation Army (Nepal)

The People's Liberation Army (PLA) of Nepal was a communist insurgent force active from 1996 to 2006, launched by the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist). Its goal was to end monarchy and establish a civilian republic through armed conflict. The PLA consisted of guerrilla fighters fighting against government forces, aiming to address issues of inequality and political representation. After a decade of conflict, a peace agreement was reached in 2006, leading to the integration of many PLA members into Nepal’s national army and the transformation of the conflict into political processes.
