Ohrid Literary School
The Ohrid Literary School, active from the 9th to 11th centuries, was a significant cultural and educational center in what is now North Macedonia. It played a crucial role in the development of Slavic literature and the spread of Christianity in the Balkans. Scholars, most notably Saints Cyril and Methodius, promoted the use of the Cyrillic alphabet and translated religious texts into Slavic languages. This effort helped establish a written tradition for Slavic peoples, fostering unity and cultural identity. The school's impact on language, literature, and education is still recognized today as foundational to Slavic heritage.
