Ocular Development

Ocular development refers to the process by which the eyes form and evolve from early embryonic stages to a fully functioning organ. This involves the coordination of various genes and signals that guide the formation of structures like the cornea, lens, retina, and optic nerve. Initially, eye structures begin to appear around the fourth week of pregnancy, and by birth, the eyes are mostly developed, although they continue to mature throughout childhood. Proper ocular development is essential for vision, as any disruptions can lead to conditions like amblyopia or other visual impairments.
