Numerical Weather Prediction

Numerical weather prediction (NWP) is a method used by meteorologists to forecast the weather using mathematical models of the atmosphere. These models simulate how weather patterns develop by solving complex equations based on physical laws. They take current weather data from various sources, like satellites and weather stations, and input it into computers. The computers then crunch the numbers to predict future weather conditions, such as temperature, precipitation, and wind. By continuously updating these models with new data, NWP provides increasingly accurate weather forecasts used for planning and safety.
