Nucleosomes

Nucleosomes are fundamental units of DNA packaging in cells. They consist of a segment of DNA wrapped around a core of proteins called histones. This structure allows long DNA strands to fit neatly inside the cell's nucleus, much like how a spool holds thread. By organizing DNA into nucleosomes, cells regulate access to genetic information, making it easier to control which genes are turned on or off, thus influencing cell behavior and function. Nucleosomes play a crucial role in processes like gene expression, DNA replication, and repair.
