Histones
Histones are protein molecules found in the nucleus of cells that help organize and package DNA. Think of DNA as a long thread; histones act like spools or beads around which the DNA wraps tightly. This wrapping forms a compact structure called chromatin, allowing the cell to efficiently store, manage, and access genetic information. Histones also play a role in regulating gene activity by modifying how tightly or loosely DNA is wound, influencing which genes are turned on or off. They are essential for maintaining the structure and function of our genetic material.
