Nuclear Proliferation Treaty (NPT)

The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), established in 1968, is an international agreement aimed at preventing the spread of nuclear weapons. It has three key objectives: to stop the spread of nuclear weapons and nuclear weapon technology, to promote peaceful uses of nuclear energy, and to pursue disarmament among nuclear-armed states. Countries are categorized as either nuclear weapon states (those that built nuclear bombs before the treaty) or non-nuclear weapon states. The treaty fosters cooperation and dialogue, aiming to enhance global security and encourage disarmament efforts while allowing nations to benefit from nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
