Nigeria Civil War

The Nigeria Civil War, also known as the Biafra War, occurred from 1967 to 1970. It stemmed from ethnic, economic, and political tensions after Nigeria gained independence in 1960. The southeastern region, predominantly Igbo, sought independence as the Republic of Biafra due to perceived marginalization and violence against them. The Nigerian government opposed this, leading to a brutal conflict marked by widespread famine and significant loss of life. The war ended with Biafra's defeat, but its impact on Nigeria's national unity, ethnic relations, and socio-political landscape remains profound to this day.
