Biafran currency

The Biafran currency was the money issued by the short-lived Republic of Biafra during the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970). It aimed to establish economic independence for the secessionist state in southeastern Nigeria. The currency, called the Biafran pound, was issued in limited quantities and printed locally. Due to the conflict and limited recognition, Biafran currency was rarely widely circulated and eventually became obsolete after Biafra's defeat and reintegration into Nigeria. Today, it is a rare collector's item and a symbol of Biafra’s attempt at independence.
