Biafra
Biafra was a region in southeastern Nigeria primarily inhabited by the Igbo people. In 1967, following ethnic and political tensions, Biafra declared independence, leading to a brutal three-year civil war known as the Biafran War. Nigeria fought to keep the region integrated, resulting in significant loss of life and widespread starvation. The war ended in 1970 with Biafra reintegrated into Nigeria. The Biafran movement remains a symbol of Igbo identity and economic concerns, and its legacy influences regional politics and ethnic relations in Nigeria today.
