Nationalist Spain
Nationalist Spain refers to the regime established by General Francisco Franco following the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). The conflict pitted Franco's Nationalists against the Republican forces, which included a mix of leftist factions. After the Nationalists' victory, Franco ruled Spain as a dictator from 1939 until his death in 1975. His regime emphasized authoritarianism, nationalism, and conservative values, often suppressing political opposition and regional identities. The period is marked by censorship and economic difficulties but also post-war reconstruction and eventual modernization. Spain transitioned to democracy after Franco's death, leading to significant political and social changes.
