National Popular Vote
The National Popular Vote (NPV) is an initiative aimed at ensuring that the presidential candidate who receives the most votes nationwide becomes president. Under the current Electoral College system, candidates can win the presidency without winning the popular vote. NPV proposes that states commit their electoral votes to the candidate who wins the national popular vote, regardless of state outcomes. This agreement would take effect when enough states (representing a majority of electoral votes) join, thereby ensuring that popular support across the country determines the election winner, enhancing the democratic principle of one person, one vote.
